As the TechCrunch article — The Online Ad Recession Is Officially Here: First Quarterly Decline In Revenues — points out, online ad revenue took a beating this past quarter.

But this shouldn’t be a surprise. Ad budgets are always the first to go in recession times (even if more and more people are transitioning their advertising campaigns from traditional media to new media).
That being said, I think this may be a tipping point towards success-based online advertising (e.g., lead- and referral-based).
