What Myst Means for the iPhone

Over the weekend, Cyan Worlds, Inc. released their groundbreaking, bestselling computer game Myst for the iPhone.

While this is an awesome repurposing of an already successful title for Cyan and will most definitely result in some real cash for them (reminds me of the movie industry recycling old movies into new remakes resulting in mega bucks), this is tremendously important for the iPhone because it is the first release for a full-featured, full-length, and might I even say, “complex,” video game for the iPhone. It transforms the iPhone from a platform for small games to play when you have a few minutes into a real gaming device. Sure, the size of the game (uses 1.5gb of space on installation and takes up 750mb of space once done) makes it possible to only install a few of this magnitude on any iPhone, but thanks for Moore and his Law, that won’t be a problem for future iPhones.
