As I was browsing for an iPhone app the other day and reading the descriptions of each, something hit me: people who can effectively market an iPhone app really understand marketing. First, they don’t have the tools of fancy flash graphics to pull a user in. The only tool they have is plain text (i.e., being creative with copy). The other tool they’re provided with is the power of pricing and offering discounts. Finally, they need to actually create a good product. Of course there are reviews out of the app stores and I’m sure flashy graphics in certain places, but within the app store, it’s minimalist marketing at it’s best. If you’re bored, read the descriptions of companies with top apps and those without any reviews and you can learn a lot.
