Those of you who know me know that I’m a big fan of homebrew media servers (ie. adding software to your computer that enables it to store movies and play them on demand, pipe your music throughout your house/apt, and more). However, the one issue I’ve always had with the concept is that I don’t want to have to drag a mouse and keyboard to my coffee table in order to select a movie to watch while sitting at my couch (since the media server most likely will be next to the tv/projector and not the couch). Enter the Zemote. I haven’t tried it yet, but it installs a full-fledged home media server remote onto your iPhone. Different views are available (including play/rewind/pause/etc button, a keyboard mode). In order for it to interact with your computer, you’ll need to install the Zemote app on your computer (currently available for PC and coming soon to Mac). Seems like the most elegant and inexpensive remote solution I’ve found to date. [Via eHomeUpgrade]
One issue I’ve always hit up against when considering moving my media to a home media server is the lack of remote control.
